Baptisms of Infants
Like all of the sacraments, baptism is primarily about our connection to Jesus Christ. Since Jesus’ own baptism at the beginning of his ministry, baptism has been a hallmark of Christian identity from the time of the apostles. The Catechism notes that “Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as [children] of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church, and made sharers in her mission.” Baptism connects us to Christ, and through him connects us to all of the other baptized. Parents and godparents become examples of faith to inspire their children.
Baptism usually take place on Saturday mornings or afternoons.
First-time parents or guardians participate in a preparation class offered for parents and godparents by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Please fill out the attached form for your child and attach a copy of the child’s birth certificate or record. Send them and along with a request for a particular date via email to Father Gil at gmartinez@sp-apostle.org.
Please note that baptisms are generally not celebrated during the 40 days of Lent.
Godparents
Parents should designate at least one person and no more than two as godparents. At least one godparent should be at least 16 years old; a practicing Catholic who has been confirmed and received First Communion (and not the child’s father or mother). Baptized Christians of other Christian churches may serve as witnesses of the baptism.
