We are delighted to invite you to the USC Chamber Singers' Spring Concert, “Into the Light.” The title of the program comes from “Blackbird,” originally recorded by John Lennon and Paul McCartney in 1968 and performed by the Chamber Singers in an arrangement by Matthew Brown.
In Many Years from Now by Barry Miles, Paul McCartney explains that the late 1960s were "the days of the Civil Rights movement (...) so this was really a song from me to a black woman, experiencing these problems in the States: ‘Let me encourage you to keep trying, to keep your faith, there is hope.’"
With McCartney's sentiment at the heart of our program, we are proud to feature world-premiere performances including Dale Trumbore’s “Between Water and Air,” Saunder Choi’s “June Jasmine,” and Stacey V. Gibbs’ double choir setting “Elijah.”
